THE NIA PAID COURTESY VISIT TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR, AKWA IBOM STATE UNIVERSITY OVER THE ESTABLISHMENT OF FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE.

The Nigerian Institute of Architects led by Arc. Edidiong Ukpong PhD FNIA, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Akwa Ibom State University, Professor Otoabasi Etim Akpan, at the University Liaison Office, Shelter Afrique, Uyo, on 26th March 2026.
The visit aimed at identifying with the foundational and transformative leadership of AKSU, and also to strengthen collaboration between academia and the architectural profession.
In his address, the Chair of NIA, Arc Edidiong Ukpong, PhD, FNIA, congratulated the Vice Chancellor on his well-deserved substantive appointment by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno PhD—describing it as a testament to a distinguished career in public service, academic excellence, institutional advancement, and enviable track records recognized globally.

Arc. Ukpong acknowledged the Vice Chancellor’s visionary role in the establishment of the Faculty of Architecture, Akwa Ibom State University, building on the ARISE Agenda of the Akwa Ibom State Governor—a continuum of the vision of the founding father, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and one-time President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Arc. Obong Victor Attah, FNIA. He described it as a very strategic investment in the built environment, positioning AKSU as a breeding hub for a new generation of Architects.
The Chair, highlighted some of the needed infrastructure for the smooth running of the faculty to include computers, drawing boards, functional studios, lecture halls, a safe learning environment, and well-trained manpower.

The NIA pledged its support towards the growth, stability, and long-term success of the new faculty in areas such as curriculum development, programme accreditation, mentorship, continuous professional development, industry standards exposure, as well as research and practice linkages.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, Prof. Otoabasi Etim Akpan—ably represented by the DVC (Academics), Prof. Iniobong Umotong—heartily welcomed the NIA and described the gesture as kind and timely in opening doors for partnership.

High point of the event was the Presentation of the “Pioneer Faculty of Architecture in Akwa Ibom State” (NUC Compliant) Award on the Vice Chancellor.
In the closing remarks, the DVC (Administration), Prof. Nkanikpo Ibok, thanked the NIA and encouraged healthy collaboration in mentorship and knowledge transfer to ensure that the Faculty of Architecture has a solid foundation for growth.

In NIA team were all categories of Architects, while other members of management staff made up the AKSU team.
