The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Safety and Environment, Mrs. Jayne Ufot, has emphasized the critical role of safety communication in risk management, describing it as a fundamental tool for preventing accidents and promoting responsible behaviour.
The Governor’s Aide made this known on Thursday, April 9, 2026, during the ongoing induction training for 100 safety officers and lawyers at the Ibom-LED Centre, Uyo.
Speaking on the topic “Safety Communication (Safe Signs, Signage, Signals & Symbols), PPE Types/Users and Behaviour-Based Safety)”, she noted that safety signs remain indispensable in communicating hazards, especially in situations where verbal communication may not be possible.
“There are lots of safety signs, each designed to convey specific instructions and warnings. Such signs serve as silent guides in workplaces, roads, and public environments.” she said.
She explained that the primary purpose of safety signs is to convey specific instructions and warnings by providing critical information on potential hazards, enabling people to make informed decisions.
Mrs. Ufot who described Governor Umo Eno as the number one safety officer in the state, noted that the ongoing training reflects his administration’s commitment to strengthening safety standards and awareness.
She stressed that the induction training is expected to equip the newly employees with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage safety concerns, and enforce standards in their respective fields.
The training also features; interactive sessions, with participants exposed to practical session on hazard identification, safety assessments, implementation of control measures, development of safe behavioural practices, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
