The people of Uruk Eshiet in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area have continued to witness purposeful and directional representation as the Member Representing Etim Ekpo and Ika State Constituency, Elder Mfon Idung, officially handed over a newly completed Civic Center at Urua Anwa, Eka Uruk Eshiet, to the Eka Uruk Eshiet Village Council on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
According to some of the residents of both Ntak Inyang and Ikot Ikpa in Eka Uruk Eshiet, “The project stands as a symbolic edifice to the effective representation of the Etim Ekpo born lawmaker”. “It is equally a symbolic statement to how responsive leadership and sincere commitment to grassroots development can further reinforce the lawmaker’s determination to bring governance closer to the people through impactful community-oriented initiatives”, says the Supervisor for Education, Hon Abasiama Dickson.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the lawmaker emphasized that the Civic Center was conceived to serve as a hub for community gatherings, youth engagements, women empowerment programmes, social activities and other developmental interactions capable of strengthening unity and progress within the community.
He noted that sustainable development can only thrive where leaders remain connected to the aspirations of the people, stressing that the facility represents not just a physical structure, but a symbol of inclusion, peace and collective advancement for the people of Eka Uruk Eshiet.
He further urged the youths to desist from acts that are inimical to their mental health and perhaps their overall future “my advice to the youths is for them to shun youthful exuberance, cultism and all forms of anti social vices. They should rather pursue courses that will make them useful to both themselves and the community. There are indulgements that are not in any way healthy for their well-being and wellness, and my admonition to them is that they desist from indulging themselves in such acts that are capable of destroying their future”
The community leaders and residents, overwhelmed with gratitude, applauded Elder Idung for what they described as exceptional and visionary representation that has touched many lives in the community and across the constituency, noting that the Civic Center is one project that has brought inexplicable joy to the community on the account of its general usefulness to the people.
Meanwhile, as the project was formally handed over, the Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Mr Gideon Uwa, reaffirmed the council’s readiness to continue supporting programmes and policies that will engender social upliftment among the youths and women across the Local Government Area. The Chairman commended Elder Mfon Idung for complementing government’s efforts through strategic infrastructural interventions and people-centered empowerment, noting that the Civic Center will greatly enhance community development and social cohesion.
