The Effiat and Mbo Host Communities Development Trust funded by the Oriental Energy Resources Limited commenced its 2026 Medical Outreach by donating medical materials estimated at several millions of naira to the Primary Health Centre, Esuk Enwang, Effiat in Mbo LGA of Akwa Ibom State.
The outreach is expected to cover the five communities of Effiat, Ebughu, Enwang, Udesi and Uda in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
This is as it has targeted over 7,000 rural dwellers for free medical intervention across the affected ommunities.
The relief materials include drugs and medical equipment for checking of blood pressure, blood sugar levels,as well as and other basic health indicators.
Beneficiaries from each of the five communities will receive free treatment under the programme themed “Bringing healthcare closer to the people”
Addressing hundreds of beneficiaries of the programme at the Primary Health Centre,Esuk Enwang, in Effiat community on Wednesday, the BOT chairman, Barrister Inam Okon, appreciated the community members particularly the traditional rulers who turned up to participate in the free medical outreach programme.
He said the grass-cutting machine was donated to help maintain a clean and accessible environment around the health centre facility while the other medical equipment will assist the PHC better attend to the Health needs of the people.
“We sincerely appreciate the community, especially the king and the chiefs present here today. Thank you for your cooperation and for coming out to support this program. We truly value and appreciate you all.
“These relief materials are being provided by the Board of Trustees (BOT) of Effiat and Mbo Host Community Development Trust, which is being sponsored by Oriental Energy Resources Limited.
“The relief materials provided include free drugs and medications, as well as medical equipment used to check blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and other basic health indicators. In addition, a grass-cutting machine was donated to help maintain a clean and accessible environment around the health center, ensuring that our people can easily access healthcare services in a safe and hygienic setting”
The Chairman who disclosed that the intervention would be done annually added that in the years ahead the Trust would also intervene in other areas to improve on the well being of the rural communities “
“By the grace of God and as long as we have the capacity, we plan to carry out these activities on an annual basis. This is just the beginning. We are also committed to doing more in other areas to further support and improve the well-being of the community” he said
He called on the community to take adequate care of the equipment and ensure they are used for the benefit of the people of the community whenever the need arises.
The lead medical consultant of the programme, Dr Asukwo Onukak lauded the initiative of the Effiat and Mbo Community Trust and called on the people to take advantage of the medical intervention to improve their well-being.
He disclosed that that in each of the five communities, a total of at least 1,500 beneficiaries totaling 7,500 persons in all have been targeted to receive free drugs and other consumables
” In each of the five communities,we are targeting over 1,500 beneficiaries and after three days in Effiat,we are going to another community” he said
He listed the scope of the intervention to include general medical consultation for adults and children, ophthalmological services/ distribution of eye glasses, prostrate cancer screening for men, breast and cervical cancer screening for women and distribution of cereal for children aged between 6-59 months among several other interventions
In her remarks, the President, Medical Women Association of Nigeria,Akwa Ibom State chapter, Dr Mary Udoh, highlighted the benefits of the programme and called on the people particularly the women to take advantage of it to improve their well-being.
She described breast cancer disease as a killer disease and called on the women come out for screening in order to prevent its occurrence.
The village head of Esuk-Ewang, Chief Effiong Ita Bassey, prayed God to continue to bless Effiat and Mbo Host Community Trust for bringing such intervention closer to the people.
