Elected Councillors from the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State have made a passionate appeal to His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, to intervene in the challenges facing grassroots administration in the state.
The Councillors, under the Akwa Ibom State Councillors’ Forum, in a Communique issued on July 6, 2026, after their Maiden General Meeting, reaffirmed their total loyalty and support for Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Tinubu, while also commending the Governor for his people-oriented leadership and support for Local Government autonomy.
However, the Forum respectfully drew attention to some areas of concern requiring the Governor’s fatherly intervention.
Among the issues raised is the need for improved dialogue between the Forum and the leadership of ALGON. The Councillors noted that several attempts to meet with the ALGON Chairman to discuss issues of mutual interest have not yet materialized, and expressed hope that a platform for dialogue will be created soon.
The Councillors also appealed for the implementation of approvals granted since December 16, 2025, relating to the upward review of imprest, security vote, overseas training for legislative leaders, and constituency project funding.
On constituency projects, which are meant to be handled by Councillors as representatives closest to the grassroots, the Forum appealed that the present arrangement where a token of N2 million is given while Chairmen take over execution be reviewed, to allow Councillors to directly implement and supervise projects for better accountability and impact.
According to the Communique, Councillors still sign for constituency projects annually and are committed to ensuring these projects touch lives in line with the ARISE Agenda.
The Forum also appealed for provision of official vehicles, improved welfare, review of the Local Government Administration Law 2017, and an end to all forms of victimization under the ALGON Template.
The Councillors stressed that their Communique is not a confrontation but a patriotic appeal aimed at strengthening grassroots democracy and supporting the vision of His Excellency for a more prosperous Akwa Ibom State.
