2027 A’Ibom Gubernatorial Race: Obong Jeremiah Akpan Declares Interest

As the 2027 gubernatorial election approaches, a philanthropist, Obong Jeremiah Akpan, has declared his intention to contest for the governorship of Akwa Ibom State.

Obong Akpan made his intention known on Friday, 24th April , 2026 during 2026 Sensor Chapel Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council.

At the event, where Obong Akpan, who is the President of the Real Help Initiative, was honoured by the chapel for his humanitarian services, stated that he has the interests of the masses at heart and has so far empowered thousands of vulnerable citizens particularly the widows, orphans and people living with disabilities across the State.

Obong Akpan who is of the African Democratic Congress ( ADC) stressed that his interest in the gubernatorial race is driven by his belief in political reform .

He appreciated the leadership of Sensor Chapel for the award , noting that it was a call for more service.

Speaking, the Chairman of Sensor Chapel, Comrade Akaniyene Akpan said the presentation of the award was in profound recognition of his unwavering commitment for humanity, visionary leadership and extraordinary commitment to restoring dignity to the widows, orphans, and the vulnerable

The event was attended by members of the media community in the state and featured a keynote lecture on the theme, “The rise of citizen journalism: opportunities and challenges for mainstream media.”
