Oruk Anam Local Government Area on Saturday, December 27, 2025, asserted its cultural identity at the Christmas Unplugged 3.0 Festival in Uyo, presenting a coordinated display of heritage, leadership, and community pride at the Village Square, Christmas Village, Udoudoma Avenue.
The outing featured a special Akaba performance, appearances by other Oruk Anam cultural troupes, and exhibitions of indigenous food, arts, crafts, and natural resources, drawing attention to both the cultural richness and economic potential of the area.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sunday Festus Akpan, said the participation was aimed at projecting Oruk Anam beyond its borders while positioning culture as a tool for unity, identity preservation, and tourism development.
He commended Governor Umo Eno for sustaining platforms such as Christmas Unplugged, noting that the initiative has strengthened cultural expression, promoted tourism, and provided opportunities for local communities to showcase their heritage on a statewide stage.
In a goodwill message, the Member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency, Hon. Sampson Idiong, praised the organisation, coordination, and authenticity of the Oruk Anam presentation, describing it as a true reflection of the peopleβs heritage.
He also applauded Governor Umo Eno for prioritising cultural development and inclusivity, describing the festival as a unifying platform that celebrates diversity across Akwa Ibom State.
Earlier, the Paramount Ruler of Oruk Anam, HRH Engr. J. J Obosi, presented a historical overview of the Oruk Anam people, outlining their origins, values, and contributions to the development of Akwa Ibom State.
A vote of thanks was delivered by the Chairman, Central Planning Committee and Secretary of Council, Surv. Saviour Inyang, who appreciated the state government, cultural performers, organisers, and members of the public for their support and participation.
The event was attended by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sir Anieti Udofia; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Relations, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan; the Delivery Adviser to the Governor, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet.
Also in attendance were the wife of the Chairman, Deaconess Mrs. Juliana Sunday Festus, and the wife of the House member, Mrs. Ememobong Idiong, alongside other stakeholders and guests.
