The newly elected executive of the Chartered Institute of Nigeria (CITN), Uyo and District Society, has unveiled its blueprint for the next two years, stating that the ultimate target was to introduce impactful initiatives that will change narratives in the history of the institute in Uyo.
This was made known when the 13- member Exco, led by its chairman, Deaconess Idorenyin William, paid a courtesy call on the Executive Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS), Sir. Okon Okon, at his office, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, recently.
Established on February 1, 1982, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) is a professional organization in Nigeria whose members are certified qualified tax practitioners or administrators.
In her address, Mrs. William who emerged victorious during the General Annual Meeting and CITN’s election of 28th August, 2025, listed seven areas of priority attention for her Exco to include capacity building, membership drive and engagement, and publicity and publication. Others are Catch Them Young Initiative, colloboration and networking, and partnership with government’s relevant institutions and critical stakeholders.
“Our mission and strategic focus is to advance the growth, visibility, and impact of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria in Akwa Ibom State through strategic initiatives that foster professional development, enhance public awareness, promote youth engagement and strengthen institutional colloboration, and corporate governance”, the CITN chairman who has a two-year tenure revealed.
Mrs William, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, further noted that the essence of the courtesy call on Sir Okon was to formally introduce the new Exco to him, acknowledge his outstanding personal contributions and that of AKIRS to the growth and successes recorded over the years by CITN Uyo and District Society, as well as seek areas of colloboration to actualize her vision for the body.
Appreciating the visit, Sir Okon Okon, a Fellow and Council Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, thanked the visitors for the visit, congratulated members of the Exco for their election victories, and also commended them for what he called, “lofty plan of action”.
Okon assured them that the Revenue Service was ever ready to partner and support the CITN in anyway possible.
“Thank you for this courtesy call, this being your first since inauguration of the new exco. I warmly congratulate you on your victory in the election which I learnt was keenly contested. Let me also commend you, Deaconess William, for having not just developed a blueprint but also having it written down. I like it when plans were clearly laid out, because it makes implementation easy. I can assure you that AKIRS was ever ready to partner with you to leverage your services. You can’t separate AKIRS from CITN; it’s like River Nile and Egypt”, Sir Okon noted.
The AKIRS Chairman however encouraged the executives of CITN, Uyo and District Society to be more fully involved in professional practice of taxation by upping their game beyond rudimentary knowledge, create tutorial centres to groom students and prospective members to boost capacity, have more visible presence in Uyo through development of infrastructure including having a beffiting corporate office. This, he said, shall help them keep pace with the speed that Akwa Ibom is growing and expectations of the masses from CITN.
