Fulham have marked Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary with a colourful celebration at their training ground in London, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Premier League club shared a video on their official X account on Wednesday evening, showing staff and players commemorating the occasion at Motspur Park.
The clip, accompanied by a soundtrack that moved from P-Square’s Beautiful Onyiye to Tekno’s Pana and later Fido’s Joy is Coming, captured a lively gathering filled with music, dancing and traditional displays.
Green and white decorations reflecting the Nigerian flag, designed by Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, adorned the venue. Cupcakes bearing miniature flags were laid out, while staff and players dressed in Nigerian-themed attire, reinforcing the spirit of unity and cultural pride behind the celebration.
A DJ, identified as DJ Semss, provided music that blended afrobeats and highlife, genres often associated with the country’s festivities.
Fulham’s Nigerian contingent, including Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze, were at the heart of the event, joined by team-mates such as Mali international Adama Traore.
The Fulham players danced alongside others in traditional wear, linking the club’s professional identity to its celebration of cultural heritage.
The event also highlighted the significance of Nigerian Independence Day for diaspora communities in London and beyond, where similar gatherings are held annually.
October 1 marked 65 years since Nigeria gained independence from Britain in 1960, a milestone that resonated strongly with Fulham’s show of recognition.
