As pupils and students in Akwa Ibom State resume for the 2025/2026 academic session, the wife of the Chairman, Uyo Local Government Area, Mrs. Akaninyene Uwemedimo has started the distribution of essential educational materials to pupils in 24 public primary schools across the four clans of Uyo.
The schools visited at the flag-off of the 2025 Back-to-School tour on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 were Offot Jubilee Primary School, Aka Offot and Government Primary School, Aka Offot.
Speaking through the representation of the Director for Education, Uyo LGC, Mrs Ifreke Okpon, the Chairman’s wife explained that the initiative was a deliberate mission to alleviate the financial stress that families face during the resumption period.
She urged the pupils to stay committed to their studies, noting that the Back-to-School initiative is one of several educational interventions under the Service Alone administration of Dr Uwemedimo Udo.
The supervisor for education, Comrade Ekom Daniel commended the initiative as a milestone in the Local Government’s collective effort to ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of quality education.
Through the programme, the Chairman’s wife distributed over 3,000 exercise books, school bags, water bottles and several other writing materials to the pupils.
The back to school tour which will run till October 14, 2025, was attended by the staff of the Education Directorate, Uyo LGC, the Women Development Officer, Mrs. Enobong Akang, teachers and excited pupils, who cheered as they received their educational materials.
