The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has resumed its 3rd Legislative Year, with assurance of effective legislative delivery and continued working relationship with the media.
The Chairman House Committee on Information, Hon. Jerry Otu, the member representing Ikot Ekpene/ Obot Qkara State Constituency gave the assurance while highlighting the Assembly’s achievements in lawmaking, oversight, and representation over the past two years in a press briefing with Assembly Press Corps on Thursday 16 October, 2025 at Assembly conference room.
According to Otu, the Assembly has received 44 bills in its first session, with 13 successfully passed, and 26 bills in its second session, with 12 enacted into law. In the current session, one bill has been passed out of five received
“We have maintained a collaborative relationship with the Executive, which has led to an enabling environment required in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people,” Otu said.
The Assembly plans to address urgent matters, including petitions, public hearings and ongoing bills. Otu emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with the media community, ensuring accurate reporting of the Assembly’s activities.
“I welcome everyone to the 3rd Legislative year and congratulate the State on its recent 38th Anniversary,” Otu said.
The Information Committee Chairman was flanked by other House members to include; members representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon. Moses Essien, member representing Uruan State Constituency, Hon. Itorobong Etim, that of Ini State Constituency, Hon. Lawrence Udoide among others.
Responding on behalf of press Corps, the Head of Publication/ Communication, Mrs Juliana Okon and the Press Secretary to the Speaker, Comrade Emmanuel Ebong commended 8th Assembly on impactful laws and representation that has encouraged development in the State and promised continued working relationship for a better Akwa Ibom State.
