A man has been arrested by Policemen from Eket Divisional Headquarters for allegedly rape a 14-year-old school girl of St. Francis Secondary School, Ikot Ataku in Eket Local Government Area.
The culprit, Christopher Linus Augustine, aged 28, hails from Ikot Abia and was identified by the victim, who described him as being fair in completion and have tattoo mark on his hand and shoulder.
Acting on intelligence, the Youth President of Ikot Abia, Ubong Ekpo, working in collaboration with the Village Head, Chief Monday Essiet, and other youth leaders, apprehended the culprit, arrested him and hand him over to the Police.
According to the story, Augustine on Friday, 10th October, 2025, under the heavy rain, armed with a matchet, dragged the victim (name withheld) who was returning from school into the nearby bush, carried her on his shoulder to an uncompleted building, raped her repeatedly, and damaged her private part in the process. The girl cried out but her voice couldn’t be heard by neigbours because of the heavy rain that particular day.
The incident was reported to the Village Head of Ikot Abia, who directed that the case be reported to the Police for immediate action. After the entry was entered at the Police Station, the girl was referred to Immanuel Hospital Eket for emergency treatment.
Being briefed about the incident by a concerned citizen through a voice note, requesting for assistant to help the victim who is an orphan, the Personal Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Ubong Creativity David, visited the girl at the hospital and made financial commitment for prompt medical treatment to be administered to her.
Report from the hospital has it that the girl private part has been seriously damaged and series of tests including pregnancy, culture test, among others have to be carried on her.
Worried about the pains the young girl was going through, the Governor’s Aide, accompanied by his media colleague, Emmanuel Almand Mbong, visited the scene of the crime where the girl showed them the exact spot she was kept and raped repeatedly.
The duo thereafter visited the Village Head of Ikot Abia, Chief Monday Essiet, who did not only condemned the act, but also promised to cooperate with the authority to ensure the culprit is apprehended, arrested and prosecuted.
Speaking on the arrest of the culprit, Governor Aide, Ubong Creativity David, thanked the Youth Leaders of Okon Eket for not concealing crime, but exposed the criminal which led to his arrest. He commended the Chief for working with the youth to make the arrest possible, maintaining that they have shown leadership with patriotic zeal to expose a criminal in their midst whose intention is to drag the name of the community into the mud.
He also extended appreciation to the DPO of Eket Divisional Headquarters, CSP Nelly Matis Nyeche, for his prompt action to direct his men to pick the culprit at the compound of the Village Head, promising to always work with the security to tame the tide of criminality in our society.
He assured them that Governor Umo Eno led administration abhor crime and will do everything possible to ensure that those who indulge in criminal activities in the State are made to face the full wrath of the law.
As at the time of filing this report, the culprit is in custody at Eket Police Division while investigation will commenced accordingly.
