BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE TO OUR INDEFATIGABLE, QUINTESSENTIAL MOTHER, MRS. INEMESIT UWAH, Ph.D

By: Abasiama Umoh

The elders say that every generation is blessed with a few souls whose lives become stories long before they depart the earth. Their names are spoken with admiration in family compounds, their deeds become lessons for the young, and their character becomes a measuring rod for virtue.

In the days of old, when villagers gathered around crackling fires under moonlit skies, listening attentively to the wisdom laden tales of their forebears, there were always stories of noble women whose hearts were as vast as that of the ocean and whose kindness reached every corner of the community. Such stories were often dismissed as legends woven by gifted storytellers.

Today, we celebrate a woman whose life has transformed those legends into reality, our beloved mother, Mrs. Inemesit Uwah, Ph.D.

There is a familiar tale in many villages of a great tree planted at the center of the community. Through seasons of sunshine and storms, the tree remains steadfast. Its branches provide shade to weary travelers, its roots hold firm against the raging winds and its fruits nourish generations. People may come and go, but the tree remains a symbol of stability, generosity and enduring strength. Today, Mrs. Inemesit Uwah is that tree in our midst. She has stood as a pillar of encouragement to countless individuals, offering wisdom to the confused, strength to the weary and hope to those navigating life’s difficult paths. Her presence has been a refuge, her counsel a compass and her kindness a healing balm to many hearts.

The storytellers also speak of a woman who carried a lantern through dark village paths, ensuring that others found their way home safely. She never sought applause for her efforts, nor did she demand recognition for her sacrifices. Her joy was found in seeing others succeed. Such is the remarkable spirit that defines Mrs. Inemesit Uwah. As a lover of people, she has demonstrated an uncommon capacity for empathy and compassion. She celebrates the victories of others as though they were her own and stands beside those facing challenges with undeterred commitment. In a world increasingly defined by self interest, she remains a refreshing reminder that genuine humanity still thrives among us.

Apparently, her story does not end with compassion alone. The village historians would tell of a woman who believed that knowledge was a treasure more valuable than gold and more enduring than earthly possessions. While others chased fleeting rewards, she pursued wisdom with relentless determination. Through discipline, hard work and an unquenchable thirst for learning, she ascended the lofty heights of academia, earning the distinguished title of Doctor. However, unlike many who view education as a personal achievement, she has continually used her intellectual gifts to inspire, mentor and uplift others. Her academic accomplishments stand not just as decorations of personal success but as a touch bearer lighting the path for younger generations to follow.

Indeed, her life resembles the ever flowing village stream that never runs dry. Children draw from it. Farmers depend upon it. Travelers find refreshment in it. The stream asks for nothing in return, yet it enriches every life it touches. In the same manner, Mrs. Inemesit Uwah has consistently given of herself, sharing her knowledge, extending her support, offering her encouragement and nurturing relationships built upon sincerity and goodwill. Her influence transcends classrooms, offices and social gatherings, it has reached deeply into the lives of people who will forever remain grateful for her impact.

As the gong of celebration sounds today and family, friends, colleagues and well wishers gather in deep appreciation, we are reminded that birthdays are more than dates on a calendar. They are opportunities to reflect upon lives that have become blessings to others. They are occasions to celebrate journeys marked by purpose, resilience and service. In honoring Mrs. Inemesit Uwah, this writer, personally celebrate a woman whose life has become a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of wisdom, compassion, excellence, integrity and selfless devotion.
