The commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Linus Nkan called on the people in the Akwa Ibom state to patronize the new rebirth bank, “Ibom Mortgage bank”.
Dr. Nkan make the call in an interview with newsmen during the bank 30 years anniversary/end of the year get-together/Award nite held at Watbridge Hotel, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State recently.
Nkan noted that Ibom Mortgage Bank has demonstrated consistent profitability over the last 4-5 years, boasting as the lowest non-performing loan record in the industry.
Formerly known as Akwa Savings and Loans Investment Limited, the Commissioner, Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Nkan said, it was necessary to change the identify of the Bank to raise its standard, and make it compete favourably with other financial institutions within and outside the State.
He furthered that the new name coincides with the celebration of the 30th year of unbroken mortgage banking services in the State, followed by the intensive rebranding of the bank.
“The new name of the bank is a significant journey of Akwa Savings and Loans Ltd, that have grown above turbulence and would stand firm for the betterment of the state economy and the customersβ, he said.
He enumerated the achievements of the bank to include, revitalisation of the bank, 300% profit, employment of over 1000 indigenes, remodeling of delivery processes as well as full digitalization of the operations of the bank.
Others are: improved staff welfare scheme, robust E-Channels infrastructure) platforms, customize mobile App, POS, ATM cards internet banking, PayDirect and more.
He noted with dismayed that the bank was dead and forgeting with a very bad reputation in the banking sector. “It was once a bank with negative publicity but today through the help of God with the good management team, it is now the bank that everybody are celebrating today. It was a bank that can’t pay worker’s salaries, no profit making, but today it the same bank that is profit making bank and the workers and the managements are happy”.
Regarding the prosposed creation of the new bank by Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Dr. Nkan said, it is going to be a plus for the state.
Nkan however, expressed his heartfelt appreciations to the Chairman, Board of Directors, Mr. Peter Udoh; Managing Director of the Bank, Pastor Ime Okon, management team and staff for their selfless services to rewrite the history of the bank.
He therefore encouraged people living in Akwa Ibom to patronize the bank for their housing plans, investment, loan, without fear or reservation.
