… receives award as enterprise – friendly Governor
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commended Eket Rotary Club’s dedication to initiatives that align with his administration’s ARISE Agenda, acknowledging its partnership in driving community development and progress in the State.
The Governor made the commendation during the installation ceremony of Dr. Eka Mapples as the 42nd President of Eket Rotary Club, held at Royalty Hotel, Eket.
He specifically commended the Club for prioritizing projects that enhance human capacity development which, he said, are in tandem with his administration’s development blueprint.
“These projects you talked about deserve our support because they have direct bearing on the ARISE Agenda.
“One of the things I see there is helping to train our youths and providing opportunities for women,” he said.
Governor Eno who is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International acknowledged the commitment and leadership role of the Rotary Club in Nigeria, noting that Rotary is about service to humanity, and charged the newly inducted members to use their positions to offer quality and sacrificial services to humanity.
“Rotary is about service to humanity. So anything you do for Rotary is for humanity. It is good to serve people and to support them. So I am glad to be here,” he noted.
He congratulated the newly installed Rotary President, Dr. Mapples for her motherly, friendly, humble, reliable, transparent and distinctive leadership role which has earned her the exalted position, and thanked her for her sacrificial service to humanity.
“For Dr. Eka Mapples, we have been in Eket for a long time. When I first came into Eket in 1995, the family of Elijah Mapples took me in as a son, and supported me.
“Eka has been my friend, we have grown from friends to a strong family, and she has always been there, very steady, firm and frank to a fault,” he added.
He appreciated the Club for the award given to him and his departed wife, saying that the departed first lady not only live in their hearts, but in the hllives of people she touched and imparted.
Earlier in her remark, the newly sworn-in President, Dr. Mapples, thanked the Governor for leading government officials and other friends to grace the ceremony which featured the inauguration of a board of directors, induction of new members and the official launching of the club’s service project.
She expressed appreciation to Eket Rotary Club for her normination as the 42nd President of the club, and pledged to used her office to extend help to the needy, and render service to humanity.
High points of the event was the presentation of the Enterprise – Friendly Governor Award to Governor Eno, and a posthumous award to the late first lady, HE Pastor Patience Umo Eno for committed service to humanity.
