AKSU SUG HOLDS THANKSGIVING SERVICE TO MARK SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS’ WEEK

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Akwa Ibom State University, 11th Tehila Republic, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, held a Thanksgiving Service at the university’s Chapel of Praise, Main Campus, to mark the successful completion of the 2025 Students’ Week celebration.
The service, which was filled with gratitude and worship, had in attendance several dignitaries, including the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Otoabasi Akpan, who was ably represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Iniobong Umotong. Also present was the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Engr. Dr. Dominic Ekpo, who reaffirmed his consistent participation in all SUG Thanksgiving services since assuming office, noting that he has never missed any in his years of service.
In his goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor, represented by Prof. Umotong, commended the Students’ Union Government for successfully organizing a peaceful and impactful Students’ Week celebration. He appreciated the leadership of the 11th Tehila Republic for maintaining orderliness, unity, and discipline throughout the week-long activities.
The Vice Chancellor also used the occasion to enlighten students on the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), encouraging them to take advantage of the initiative. He emphasized that the loan scheme serves as a palliative measure for all students, aimed at easing the financial burdens associated with their education.
Speaking during the service, the Vice President of the Students’ Union, Comr. Goodnews Ndiok, expressed gratitude to God for the success of the Students’ Week, describing the Thanksgiving as an opportunity to rededicate the Union and its executives into God’s hands for divine direction and a more impactful tenure.
In her spiritual charge, the Chaplain of the Chapel of Praise, Main Campus, Madam Oto-obong Umoren, who also serves as the “Mama of the Chapel,” prayed for the Union executives, committing them to God’s protection and guidance. She declared that they would continue to excel and make greater impact in leadership and national development.
The Thanksgiving service brought the week-long Students’ Week celebration of the 11th Tehila Republic to a close, marking another milestone in the university’s culture of excellence, faith, and student leadership.
